Hitec Audio Tube One

A no-frills tube microphone with a German pedigree? Huw Price fires up the new Tube One from Hitec Audio…

Price: £230.00
Manufacturer: Hitec Audio
Website: http://www.imuso.co.uk

It seems there’s a vogue these days for stylish and innovative microphone cosmetics. The sonic benefits of such designs are surely open to question, but they don’t half look good on MTV. By contrast, the Tube One’s styling is rather conventional, finished in bashful black with a narrow gold ring below the grille housing providing a classy touch. Painted matte green it would look more or less identical to the classic AKG C12. The minimal graphics are printed on the body and a heart shape indicates the ‘loud side’ of the fixed cardioid pattern.

Score: 9
