If you’re not someone who derives pleasure from dissecting your much-prized PC in order to install new soundcards, then perhaps an external unit might be preferable. This would certainly appear to be true when confronted with the new Edirol UA-1000 – a ten-in/ten-out audio interface that requires little more than the connection of a USB cable to get you up and running.
