The Edirol UA-4FX is a low-cost audio/MIDI interface that will be of interest to musicians looking to take their first steps into the world of digital recording. To this end the UA-4FX is equipped with input options for most recording tasks: there is an XLR input with phantom power, a 1/4-inch switchable guitar/mic input, an 1/8-inch mic input, a pair of phono line-level inputs, plus an S/PDIF digital input. Output options aren’t as well spec’ed – you can use either the phono analogue outputs or the S/PDIF digital output (the absence of professional XLR or 1/4-inch jack outputs puts this interface firmly in the entry-level category). However, in addition to the audio connectivity there are MIDI I/O and USB ports.
