Many of today’s software synths certainly look impressive, but there can often be significant differences in the power, efficiency and sonic dexterity of their sound engines. Applied Acoustic Systems, however, has built a series of products – from the ground up – based on a thorough and authoritative understanding of physical modelling, from the glorious vintage tones of the Lounge Lizard EP-3 to the top-of-the-range Tassman 4. Ultra Analog VA-1 (released back in 2005) was Applied Acoustic Systems’ response to the ever-increasing demand for virtual analogue synths, and it used physical modelling to generate a rich and diverse set of classic synth sounds.
