The virtual instrument market seems to be awash with reproductions of classic analogue synths. But that’s not surprising, really, given the popularity of the sound and the difficulty of getting your hands on real, working hardware from 20 or 30 years ago. So, the arrival of another soft synth may not have you leaping out of your seat with excitement. Despite the name, however, the Ultra Analog is a bit different. Rather than re-creating a hardware classic, it aims to combine the features of some vintage synths in a modern instrument. It does this through physical modelling technology rather than sampling or wavetable. The results, says AAS, are the industry’s best-sounding oscillators.
