Compared with the number of samples-based drum machines on the market, dedicated virtual drum synths are surprisingly thin on the ground – and of those that do exist, fewer than half a dozen offer anything more than Roland TR series emulations. Bucking this trend is μTonic (pronounced ‘MicroTonic’) from Swedish developers Sonic Charge.
