Digital modelling has come a long way in recent times, with some plug-in compressors and EQs now being almost indistinguishable from their vintage analogue counterparts. Analogue delay, on the other hand, retains a certain mystique as yet unattained by digital equivalents, and while some digital delays have unique qualities and functions that go far beyond those of analogue delays, nothing has really captured the true identity of a vintage tape or even bucket brigade-style analogue delay unit. It’s refreshing, then, to see Behringer’s Vintage Time Machine providing a new and inexpensive means of bringing analogue delay to the studio.
