It had to come. Electronic instruments in hardware and more recently software form have gradually muscled in on territory traditionally occupied by the drummer, the orchestra and even the guitarist. But because we have such a sophisticated and intuitive idea about what a human singing voice should sound like, the vocalist’s part has until now seemed sacrosanct.
