If you’re looking around for a new microphone, you may well be feeling slightly bewildered by the sheer range of models available. But it wasn’t always that way: not so long ago, if you wanted a decent condenser mic your choice was very limited and you’d expect to pay serious money even for a ‘budget’ model. Nowadays, musicians can afford to buy just about any type of mic they need thanks to relatively new brands like XXL. The two latest mics to be added to the company’s range are the XC97 – a unidirectional cardioid condenser – and the XC20, a condenser shotgun type.
