The folks at Steinberg and Wizoo have been responsible for some seriously innovative VST Instruments recently, such as Virtual Guitarist and HALion String Edition. Their latest product, Xphraze, is said to offer musicians a completely new way of creating rhythmically phrased music in a fast, intuitive fashion. Rhythmic patches are created in a Phraze Generator and played by holding down a note or chord on your keyboard. The Phraze Generator, envelopes and LFOs are then synchronised to the host’s song tempo. Sounds simple enough – but is it enough to actually change the way you work?
